My inspiration comes from my own experience. I have been sensitive about my height and dreaming about getting taller ever since my childhood.
Therefore, I am always attracted to heightening drugs, even though rationally I know they are useless. I believe that many people may share a similar experience as mine: being attached to negative labels, and later buying ridiculous goods or services just to relieve our anxiety or fear.
I have conducted some investigation to see how much business has built around people’s anxiety, fear and pain of their negative labels. Indeed, I have found a lot of ridiculous goods. I have learned that, to get tall, you can do a muscle injection or cut the calf to thin your legs. Yet there are more hilarious commodities, for example, underpants that can enlarge the reproductive organs, insoles that can cure heart disease by catching in the armpit, and even sanitary napkins that can treat prostatitis. It shows that these commercial behaviors have long trespassed the scientific boundary of one’s physical nature, yet they remain a considerable sales volume.
I hope to reflect these phenomena with the design of small trademarks on commodities, making labels affixed to people. The design expresses the thought on how people being labelled negatively by society and afterwards being consumed by society.
